King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard score a U.S. chart #1 with 'Flying Microtonal Banana'

It's pretty clear by now that King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are a reasonably popular band around these parts - selling out a ridiculous eight nights in a row in the same venue is plenty of indication of that.

Their new record Flying Microtonal Banana was just pipped at the post for the #1 spot on the ARIA charts by The Waifs last week but, with their last album Nonagon Infinity helping them make a splash overseas, they're managing to rack up a decent amount of attention in the U.S. too. With the album having just dropped in the U.S., they're chalking up some great results across a number of different Billboard charts - including a #1 debut for the vinyl version.

Their ninth album just finished its debut week in the U.S., and has managed to land at an impressive #2 on the Heatseeker Albums chart, just below Seattle outfit Acceptance, and at #3 on the Tastemakers Album chart, topped by Ryan Adams' monster 16th album Prisoner.

A #10 debut for Independent Albums and #19 for Alternative Albums make for some more good results, although all of this only shakes out to the 170th spot on the Top 200 Albums chart. We say 'only', but that's all relative, really.

The biggest result would have to be the #1 spot on the Vinyl Albums chart though, which really indicates just the sort of die-hard music fans King Gizz attract. They knocked Ryan Adams off his perch this time, as well as the La La Land soundtrack, and beat out other new entries from U.S. soul act Dams of the West and indie rockers Dirty Projectors to claim the prize.

So, congrats on your new #1 record Gizz - we're sure you'll sell a few more copies when the U.S. tour kicks off later this month.
