Another week, another Kanye West controversy.

As per Rolling Stone, the US rapper has been accused in a new lawsuit of sucker-punching a man at a Los Angeles restaurant, which he allegedly followed up by beating the victim as he lay unconscious on the floor.

The plaintiff, who's suing as a John Doe due to “credible security concerns” and to avoid “further reputational harm,” claims he was sitting with his brother in the private venue’s outdoor garden when Kanye, now known as Ye, allegedly blindsided him with a blow around 11pm on April 16th, 2024.

“Without warning, defendant punched plaintiff in the face. The punch knocked plaintiff to the ground where he hit his head and lost consciousness,” the complaint, which was filed on Monday in Los Angeles, reads. “Defendant then repeatedly punched plaintiff as he lay unconscious on the ground, with the intent to cause physical harm.”

The lawsuit further claims the “cowardly attack” on the plaintiff was “shocking, physically harmful, and offensive.”

The plaintiff claims Kanye showed malice by allegedly punching him while he was out cold and deciding “to flee to the protection of his security detail, leaving plaintiff injured and unconscious on the concrete floor.” The plaintiff says he required medical treatment afterwards.

The filing hints at a prior interaction involving a woman in Kanye's entourage, but it insists neither the plaintiff nor his brother did anything to trigger the alleged violence.

“Plaintiff did nothing at all to provoke it,” the filing adds. “Plaintiff’s brother did not engage in any offensive or inappropriate conduct toward any woman in defendant’s party earlier that evening, or at any time. This is not a case of mistaken identity in which defendant attacked the wrong brother. Neither brother engaged in any wrongful conduct at any time.”

In the days following the incident, the lawsuit states, Kanye “falsely accused” the plaintiff of inappropriate conduct with the woman and went on to “repeated and embellished these lies” on a podcast, leading to “public scorn, suspicion, and ridicule.”

The lawsuit claims there's evidence of the incident, "including video recordings from the scene," that prove the plaintiff "did not engage in any inappropriate or offensive conduct with a woman in defendant’s party, or anyone else.”

The lawsuit news follows Wireless Festival being cancelled after it booked Kanye as headliner.

The English festival announced its cancellation, following the controversial headliner being denied a visa.

“As a result of the Home Office banning YE from entering the United Kingdom, Wireless Festival has been forced to cancel,” a message on the festival's social media read. “All ticket holders will receive an automatic full refund.”

As per the BBC, the UK government ultimately decided that a visit from Kanye, who has made several antisemitic statements in the past, would not benefit the public good.

Wireless Festival 2026 was due to be held between July 10th-12th, bringing Kanye to the UK for his first performance in 11 years. The iconic hip-hop artist was set to headline all three nights of the festival.
