Aussie expat Jasmine Kirkwood lands US role at EMPIRE

Aussie expat and music executive Jasmine Kirkwood has joined record label, distributor and music publisher EMPIRE as its director of sync & licensing.

Kirkwood was the founding head of sync at Kobalt Music Group in Australia.

Based in Sydney, she established and developed the sync department, overseeing all areas of synchronization & admin, and creating a team.

Before that, she served as creative licensing rep at Sony/ATV Music Publishing Australia.

She relocated to New York City a few years ago as head of synchronisation for Kobalt Music Group.

Speaking of her new appointment, Kirkwood said, “The global EMPIRE roster possesses a wealth of sync opportunities across both our label and publishing divisions.

“I’m thrilled to join the team to further develop the synchronization department and contribute to the continued success of EMPIRE’s artist roster.”

She was one of three new hires at EMPIRE, alongside Mario Davis as VP of global partnerships and Marissa Phlipot as VP of HR operations.

EMPIRE was set up in San Francisco in 2010 by Ghazi Shami, initially as a hip hop and R&B company with signings as Kendrick Lamar and Fat Joe.

It expanded to other styles with names as Kane Brown, DJ Carnage and Robin Thicke.

Last year it had 60 employees with offices in San Francisco and London and an A&R in New York.
