Hoodoo Gurus are under new management.

The ARIA Hall of Fame-inducted rockers will be managed by Bill Cullen’s Sydney-based One Louder Entertainment, The Music Network can exclusively reveal, joining a roster that includes Paul Kelly, Ball Park Music, Kate Miller-Heidke and others.

The Gurus were, of course, led by legendary artist manager Michael McMartin for four decades, until he handed over the reins in 2024 to concentrate on health issues. The Canada-born artist manager passed away last year after a lengthy battle with cancer, at the age of 79.

Then, Dominic “Mick” Mazzone, the experienced artist manager, tech production professional and industry allrounder, took on management of the Gurus, before he too passed in April of this year following an illness.

With great hair, hits and a part-swampie, part-surf rock, all-groovy appeal, Hoodoo Gurus burst into the public consciousness with their 1984 debut album Stoneage Romeos (on Big Time Recordings), which went on to win the Best Debut Album category at the Countdown Awards.

More awards, and a procession of classic songs would follow, culminating in induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2007. Stoneage Romeos earned a spot in Rolling Stone Australia’s list of 200 greatest Australian albums.

The group embarked on a major national tour last year, celebrating the 40th anniversary of that beloved debut.

James Baker, the shaggy-haired drummer and bandman who co-formed Hoodoo Gurus, died at his home in Perth earlier this year, after succumbing to cancer. He was 71.

Since forming in 1981, Hoodoo Gurus have collected ten ARIA Top 20 albums and nine ARIA Top 40 singles, and built a fanbase that stretches the globe.

The Gurus have a batch of live bookings on the slate, include a spot this Saturday at Inspire Festival 2025 in Western Australia.
