Henry Wagons & Philadelphia Grand Jury lead new Sydney kid-friendly festival

Henry Wagons and Philadelphia Grand Jury are confirmed to play at Sydney’s newest festival.

The inaugural Small Fry Rock – A Music Event for Kids & Parents makes its debut Saturday December 15 at Giant Dwarf.

Designed for families who don't get out to see as much live music as they used to and who want to introduce their sprogs to music they know and which goes beyond kiddies music acts.

Small Fry Rock is being piloted by music industry identity Kristie Jane Tainton, who says she came up with the concept after she and her musician husband couldn’t find live gigs appropriate to take their one year old daughter to.

“Researching all age events to take Edie along to, I quickly found that there are plenty of music festivals and Wiggles concerts to take children to but barely any one off gigs that offer quality original Australian artists for parents to experience and share with their children.

“The state of live music in Sydney is tough. The inaugural event is a trial to find out if families will get behind such an event.”

A recent analysis by TEG Analytics of families and children’s live entertainment found that while the sector’s ticket sales dropped as a percentage of the entire entertainment sector as Australian “traditional” households declined in number, average ticket prices for such events were up over a decade by 8.2% to $50.63* while the average spend is $204.51 (in CPI-adjusted terms) went up 1.8% over the same period.
