vanda and young songwriting competition extended by a week

Good news for those still recovering after the APRA Music Awards.

The team behind the Vanda & Young Global Songwriting Competition have extended the submission deadline to 5pm (AEST) on Monday (May 6).

But organisers tell TMN that “this is the final, final chance to enter”, so best get your entries in this weekend and before the cutoff.

The competition, honouring one of Australia’s greatest songwriting and production teams, Harry Vanda and George Young, is open to all songs, from all genres and all songwriters.

The financial reward could be a game changer for developing artists, as has been the case in previous years.

1st prize: A$50,000 courtesy of APRA AMCOS, Alberts and BMG

2nd prize: A$10,000 from AMPAL (Australasian Music Publishers Association)

Unpublished prize: A$5,000

All funds from the entry fee go to Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy programs, which use music therapy to help children and adults cope with the struggles of living with a wide range of needs due to physical and intellectual disabilities, autism, trauma, illness, dementia and other difficulties.

To date, songwriters have helped raise over A$1,000,000 for these programs.

All prizes are donated by generous sponsors and all admin staff and judges work on a voluntary basis.
