BIGSOUND has unveiled details of its 2025 Goolwal Goolwal Program, set to run alongside the wider event in Brisbane from September 2–5.
The program shines a spotlight on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, creatives, and communities within Australia’s music industry.
Opening the conference on Tuesday, September 2nd, respected community leader Sandra King (O.A.M) will deliver a Welcome to Country and lead a traditional Smoking Ceremony.
Queensland’s Minister for Education and the Arts, John-Paul Langbroek, says the state’s investment in QMusic and Goolwal Goolwal will boost opportunities for Indigenous talent. “As a key part of the BIGSOUND program, Goolwal Goolwal amplifies the stories, voices and sounds of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and creatives,” Langbroek notes.
This year, Bad Apples Music will mark its tenth anniversary with Now And Forever: BIGSOUND Edition on opening night, showcasing First Nations talent.
BARKAA, a Malyangapa, Barkindji artist, will feature on two panel discussions in partnership with Support Act, tackling topics such as balancing parenthood with a music career and the challenges of public advocacy.
On September 3rd, Bad Apples founder and Yorta Yorta artist BRIGGS will sit down for a keynote conversation with Gomeroi rapper Kobie Dee. The day’s program also includes the Awesome Black Showcase, spotlighting a diverse lineup of First Nations performers.

The celebrations continue with YANGADA and Bush Day Out in the Goolwal Garden, focusing on storytelling, music, and cultural connection.
On September 4th, the BLOCK PARTY CONNECT: FROM BOORLOO TO MEANJIN will wrap up the program at Brunswick Street Mall, bringing West Coast hip hop acts including FLEWNT, INKABEE, Downsyde and more to the stage.
“We are honoured to be producing the 2025 Goolwal Goolwal program and to witness the continued evolution and amplification of First Nations voices within our industry. We’re proud to support the strength, resilience and extraordinary talent of First Nations artists in music,” say Kearna Sweeney and Bianca Kemister, Goolwal Goolwal Producer and Assistant Producer.
The Goolwal Goolwal Program remains an empowering platform for both established and emerging First Nations talent. This year’s event promises a vibrant celebration of identity, culture, creativity and community, underlining the importance of First Nations-led spaces in the music industry.
BIGSOUND 2025 runs September 2–5 in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.
