Avicii's family thanks fans and fellow DJs for their support

Avicii's family has issued a statement; their first public comment since his death last Friday during a holiday in the holiday resort of Muscat, in the Middle Eastern country of Oman.

Avicii, born Tim Bergling, had been chilling with friends and kitesurfing. He had enjoyed his stay there so much that he planned to extend his vacation by a few more days.

The DJ star’s parents and three siblings flew to Oman on the weekend to firm-up plans to return his body to his native Sweden.

Released to Variety three days after his death, the statement went: “We would like to thank you for the support and the loving words about our son and brother.

“We are so grateful for everyone who loved Tim’s music and have precious memories of his songs.

"Thank you for all the initiatives taken to honour Tim, with public gatherings, church bells ringing out his music, tributes at Coachella and moments of silence around the world.

"We are grateful for the privacy during this difficult time. Our wish is that it continues that way.

Oman police have ruled out suspicious circumstances in his passing after two post-mortems were carried out.

Avicci had given up touring to battle his alcoholism. Suffering from acute pancreatitis, he also had his gallbladder and appendix removed in 2014.

As reported in TMN yesterday, among the tributes paid to him was the Netherlands’ tallest church tower playing ‘Wake Me Up’, ‘Without You’ and ‘Hey Brother' using its 13 bells.

Thousands of fans gathered in central Stockholm to listen to his music together and observe a minute’s silence.

The DJ fraternity shared their memories, either on social media by the likes of Diplo, Calvin Harris and deadmau5; and Kygo, Nick Jonas and Alison Wonderland at their shows.

Armin Van Buuren paid his homage onstage at The State of Trance festival in Sydney before 12,700 people.
