Last night’s ARIA awards drew a solid 500,000 overnight metros for Nine Network.

The music show, which started its three-hour broadcast at 7.30 pm, was unable to beat ABC-TV’s ratings juggernauts – Hard Quiz (742,000) and Shaun Micallef’s Mad As Hell (719,000) – which screened between 8pm and 9pm.

However the awards – with the appearances of host Keith Urban. 5 Seconds of Summer, Amy Shark Rita Ora, Kasey Chambers and Troye Sivan and helped with some very cool production values and a cracking pace – topped the 18—49 and 16—39 demographics, its target audience.

The ARIAs drew 515,000 overnight metros in 2017 which was a jump up from 461,000 in 2016.

The awards were the 15th highest show of the night and eighth of all non-news and current affairs.

As to be expected, the ARIAs pull was stronger on social media, with 3 million users for the red carpet stream across three hours.
