Aussie musicians now have extra time to get involved in American Express' Music Backers Studio week, with the deadline for applications extended to November 9.

Amex is giving 50 musicians access to some of the best recording studios in the country, with the Studio Week initiative announced as part of a $1m music relief fund to give artists a leg up amid COVID-19.

The week itself has also been pushed back, and will now take place from December 9 to 16, to give artists more of an opportunity to attend a recording studio in their state.

The launch of Studio Week came after a study commissioned by Amex revealed 79% of Aussie artists were focussing more closely on making music during lockdown.

Amex will fund a full day at one of 10 legendary recording studios around Australia for each of the 50 winning artists.

They’ll be paired with some of Australia’s most well-known music producers including Simon Cohen, Rohan Sforcina and Anna Laverty.

All recipients will also get to attend a virtual mentoring workshop, hosted by leaders in management, production and music media.

The American Express Music Backers Studio Week follows on from previous initiatives for the music industry, including the ‘Nominate A Mate’ program where you could nominate someone doing great things for music to receive $1,500.

In addition, grants of between $2,000 and $50,000 are open for artists and businesses.

Applications for Studio Week close on November 9, 2020, at 11.59pm AEDT.
