AC/DC's 'Power Up' is rocking to U.K. No. 1

Look for one ARIA Hall of Fame-inducted act to unseat another on the next U.K. albums chart, where AC/DC’s Power Up is powering to the top spot.

AC/DC’s 17th studio album will become their fourth U.K. No. 1 when the Official U.K. Chart is published late Friday, by some margin.

According to the Official Charts Company, it’s outselling the rest of the Top 5 combined at the halfway stage.

It won’t be caught.

Based on OCC data, the LP has sold a mighty 47,000 combined units in the first half of the week.

Power Up only needs to shift another 8,000 units in the back half of the week to become the year’s fastest selling album.

And the album that currently holds the title? Kylie Minogue’s Disco, which debuted at No. 1 last Friday on the Official U.K. Chart with 54,905 first-week sales, for her eighth chart topper.

Kylie’s Disco is still grooving on the midweek chart, dipping to No. 5, with four new releases ahead of it.

AC/DC’s latest album is their first in six years, and sees the rock legends return with a line-up of Angus Young (lead guitar), Brian Johnson (lead vocals), Cliff Williams (bass guitar), Phil Rudd (drums) and Stevie Young (rhythm guitar), with producer Brendan O’Brien once again on the boards.

AC/DC were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame at the inaugural ceremony, in 1988. Kylie got the nod in 2011.

The Aussie takeover of the U.K. charts doesn’t end there.

Though Kylie will be bumped from top spot on the albums chart, the Melburnian is one of 24 pop and rock stars who perform on the all-star BBC Children In Need cover of Oasis’ 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out' (Decca).

The charity fundraising single is the best-seller at the midweek stage and is expected to lead the Official U.K. Singles Chart when it’s published late Friday.
