One of Melbourne’s most high profile live music venues, The Corner Hotel in Richmond is taking on fast food chain McDonalds in court in September.

The music venue says that the chain infringed its trademark The Corner and Corner for its café experiment The Corner Café.

It opened the first Corner Café in Camperdown, Sydney in late 2014 serving a healthy menu with tofu, Moroccan chicken salad, quinoa salad, brown rice, porridge, cheese toasties and pulled pork.

It intended to expand the idea through the country but has not done so.

The Corner Hotel’s owner Swancom says its legal form Clayton Utz has sent eight legal letters to McDonalds but it has not changed the name.

The Corner wants the name to be discontinued and for damages.

Adelaide’s Pepper Tree Aldinga has been granted permission by Onkaparinga Council to play live music on Fridays and Saturdays from 6pm until midnight.

The venue has been battling noise complaints for 2½ years and can now move forward provided that they use a “noise limiter” during the shows, keep the doors closed, and remind patrons to leave the premises quietly.

Newcastle’s Snake Gully Hotel will close in August and will be turned into a four-storey apartment and commercial building.

The hotel has operated for 133 years, and under the names as Bar 121 and The Commercial.
