‘Hottest 100 of Australian Songs’ Powers Re-Entries on ARIA Chart

Triple j’s Hottest 100 of Australian Songs is in the books, but the good times keep rolling for several of the featured artists.

The latest ARIA Singles Chart welcomes multiple classic songs which re-enter off the back of triple j’s special countdown.

Leading the way is Crowded House’s “Don’t Dream It’s Over,” which appeared at No. 5 on the countdown and improves 57-22 on the ARIA Chart. The single, a Billboard Hot 100 hit, peaked at No. 8 in Australia back in 1986.

INXS’ “Never Tear Us Apart”, winner of triple j’s inaugural poll of homegrown recordings, returns to the ARIA Chart at No. 28. The single peaked at No. 11 in 1988, ARIA reports.

The runner up on triple j’s competition, Hilltop Hoods’ “The Nosebleed Section”, enjoys a new peak on the ARIA Chart of No. 31. That easily eclipses its previous high point of No. 75 in 2003.

After landing at a lucky No. 13 on triple j’s list, AC/DC roars into the ARIA Top 40 like a bolt of lightning with “Thunderstruck”, up 80-37. “Thunderstruck” peaked at No. 4 in 1990.

There’s an ARIA Top 40 return for The Temper Trap’s “Sweet Disposition” at No. 39, after the track impacted the triple j tally at No. 11. “Sweet Disposition” peaked at No. 14 on the ARIA Chart in 2008.

Powderfinger landed three titles on the triple j list, led by “My Happiness” at No. 6. The Brisbane band’s signature song enters the ARIA Chart at No. 45, having peaked at No. 4 in 2000.

Also, Gotye and Kimbra’s Grammy Award-winning, ex-ARIA Chart and Billboard Hot 100-leading smash “Somebody That I Used To Know” re-enters the national singles list at No. 46. That follows its top 10 appearance on the Hottest 100, at No. 10. “Somebody” spent eight weeks at No. 1 on the ARIA Chart in 2011.

Triple j's Hottest 100 of Australian Songs counted down on July 26th, after capturing more than 2.65 million votes, for triple j’s fourth biggest Hottest 100.

Flying high at the top of the ARIA Singles Chart, published Friday, August 1st, is “Golden”, the lead track from soundtrack to KPop Demon Hunter. “Golden” lifts 2-1 for its first stint at the summit. It’s one of four tracks from the animated Netflix musical film in the Top 10, while the soundtrack proper logs a fourth consecutive week at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart.

Meanwhile, Australian entertainer Tim Minchin enjoys a No. 4 debut for Time Machine. That’s Minchin’s second ARIA-charted album, after Apart Together peaked out at No. 3 in 2020.

Finally, Aussie outfit Folk Bitch Trio bag a No. 19 entry with their debut album, Now Would Be A Good Time.
